It is something that is also important not only for nurse to communicate with other nursing staff but also with nurse to patient communication as the patient can convey their needs and or issues as well as pain. It is also a core part of the nursing process because written communication needs to be documented regarding the patients treatment, what has been done and what drugs etc have been given and when they have been given so that other medical staff such as Doctors, physiotherapists and dietitians know what treatment is occurring and also from a legal viewpoint in that if anything does happen to a patient and their records are viewed, nursing staff, if in question can look back at documented evidence and confirm what, when and why an item was given or task carried out.
